Design File-1
The original USS StarQuest was a Galaxy Class vessel. As with many ship’s of the line during the Dominion War, the ship was lost with all hands on a classified mission. Due to the StarQuest’s illustritive career it was decided that a re-commissioning of the vessel was in order. Thus was adopted the StarQuest Project, overseen by surviving command officer, Captain Jeff Handshaw.
Immediately the first decision was whether to re-christen an existing Galaxy Class vessel or to begin anew with an existing design. The first consideration was the use of the newly enlisted Prometheus Class or perhaps even the newly enlisted Sovereign Class, however the decision was then made by the Starfleet Corps. of Engineers (SCE) to take an existing design and utilize modifications from the afore mentioned vessels in an effort to create a hybrid deep exploration/heavy battle cruiser.
The Galaxy Class refit was chosen for purely aesthetic purposes, not to mention it’s nostalgic resemblance to the original StarQuest. Along with the standard enhancements given to that series, the new ship was modified with a tri-separate design along the same lines as the Prometheus Class.
What that means, is that the ship has the capability of dividing into modular parts that are capable of self contained propulsion, defense, and overall tactical advantage, giving one vessel the power to become three or more. In further analysis of these systems we will evaluate and illustrate the reasoning behind these decisions. Some have criticized Captain Handshaw for moving in this direction expressing that it seems rather hostile of Starfleet to commission a ship so eloquently designed (seemingly) for war. This too shall be evaluated.
