At this weekends STARFLEET Region 2 Summit 2008 in Montgomery, AL, the U.S.S. StarQuest, NCC-71804 was awarded the
Region 2 Shuttle of the Year!

That’s the Region 2 Chief of ShOC (Shakedown Operations Command), Admiral Mike Henigan (who’s ship we beat), presenting our very own beloved Captain Ralph Planthold (our mother ship the U.S.S. Gasparilla’s CO) the award at the Region 2 Summit in Montgomery, AL.

And also at last weeks meeting of the U.S.S. StarQuest, 2 new Starfleet members were officially welcomed to the crew, with Ensign Joe Lauria taking over as Chief Science Officer, and his nephew Ensign Anthony joining Security Chief Tasha Handshaw as the Assistant Security Chief.  We also celebrated the promotions of long time member Lieutenant JG Elizabeth Day and our hard working new-comer Lieutenant JG Erica Johnson (previously Erica Littman).  Ensign 3rd Class Tasha Handshaw also received a promotion to recognize her involvement since birth.  As she began chanting Kill, Kill, Kill, we quietly relieved her of her side-arm;-)

Dear Jeff and Johnny:
By virtue of winning this award, your chapter is now Region 2’s entry in the STARFLEET Shuttle of the Year 2007 competition to be decided at the 2008 STARFLEET International Conference in Ithaca, NY, June 27-29! You’ve recently asked, perhaps rhetorically, what you get out of belonging to STARFLEET.  Of course, the simple, pat answer to that question is, “what you put into it”; I think this award, signifying the recognition by your peers, demonstrates that better than mere words can convey. But the deeper answer to that question is, “the chance to play in a larger pond.”  Of course you would remain a fine club if you were to withdraw from the larger organization; you’ve already demonstrated that handily.  But then you’d miss out on sharing what you have with the rest of Region 2 and indeed with STARFLEET.Don’t think for a moment that this was some kind of ploy to keep you from leaving.  You and your crew earned this award.  And I, for one, am so glad you didn’t vote to leave STARFLEET!I’ll bring this award to your commissioning ceremony.Hailing frequencies closed.
