Producer/director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and David Seltzer, the screenwriter of the original Omen, are working together to develop an earthquake-themed movie for Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sci-fi Channel reported today that: “Cloverfield became the first monster hit released in 2008, debuting with $41 million during the Jan. 18 weekend”

Original Star Trek star William Shatner waxed nostalgic about the franchise as he unveiled a multimedia touring exhibition of Trek memorabilia in Long Beach, Calif., on Jan. 17.

Roberto Orci, co-writer of director J.J. Abram’s highly anticipated Star Trek movie, told SCI FI Wire that the tightly guarded story for the upcoming franchise reboot depends heavily on the appearance of original series star Leonard Nimoy.

Typically, a writer’s job doesn’t end once the cameras start rolling. But in the case of “Star Trek XI,” the words on the paper are the words that will end up on the screen.
